In My Mailbox #7

May 15, 2011 at 12:24 pm (In My Mailbox, Meme) (, , , , , , )

Howdy y’all, it’s time for another awesome IMM.

In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi over at The Story Siren where bloggers showcase the books they received over the week.

All the books I got this week were from the library, as I’m running out of money to fund this terrible, yet awesome addiction.

Desires of the Dead by Kimberly Derting; I recently read The Body Finder, and liked it enough to want to get my hands on the sequel. Lucky for me, the sequel was released about a month after the first book came out, so I didn’t have to wait long. One of the few perks of living in Australia! πŸ˜›
Find it on: Goodreads / Book Depository / Amazon

The Iron Duke by Meljean Brook; I’d been hearing about this book a lot, and I’ve got an ebook of it, but since I have no time for reading my own books, I figured that if I borrowed it from the library, I’d be able to finally read it. My logic is confusing, I know. Here’s hoping it’s worth the read.
Find it on: Goodreads / Book Depository / Amazon

Genesis by Lara Morgan; I love books by Australian authors, mainly because they get so little recognition. Whenever I find a book by an Aussie Author,Β  I just have to snatch it up. I think in the future, I’ll do a feature for unknown Aussie authors that deserve some recognition. πŸ™‚
Find it on: Goodreads

Vesper by Jeff Sampson; This just looks like an awesome book. And it’s written by a guy, and the narrator appears to be a teenage girl, so I’m really interested if he’s made the voice feel real, and not like a reversed Ethan / Sam.
Find it on: Goodreads / Book Depository / Amazon

Pegasus and the Flame by Kate O’Hearn; I love reading about creatures that aren’t wildly popular, and pegasi seem to fit the bill. This looks like it’ll be a great read, so I can’t wait to get started with it.
Find it on:Goodreads / Book Depository / Amazon

The Warrior Heir by Cinda Williams Chima; I recently read The Demon King by this author, and found it surprisingly good for a stereotypical fantasy. Sadly, my library doesn’t have the sequel to The Demon King, so I’ve had to make do with the first of her other trilogy. Hopefully, this is as good as The Demon King.
Find it on: Goodreads / Book Depository / Amazon

Sandman: Dream Country by Neil Gaiman; So, can you tell that I love this series yet? I’m fairly addicted to it, and I urge all of you to go out and read it and become addicted as well. Tomorrow, I’ll post up my review of the first volume, Preludes and Nocturnes, so be sure to catch it if this series seems interesting. Hopefully, it’ll give you the kick you need to read it. πŸ˜›

Genesis looks good – looking forward to your review. I would be interested in reading your post spotlighting Aussie authors too.
I have Desires of the Dead on my kindle, but haven’t gotten to it yet. If I can’t physically see the books, sometimes I forget about them.
You found some great library books. Enjoy!

Ha, I’m exactly the same. I have all these e-galleys that I keep forgetting about because I can’t see them. I usually stack books in order of importance to organise myself. I can’t really do that with e-books. πŸ˜›

      And thanks!

I’ll look forward to your review on The Iron Duke, the Warrior Heir and Vesper. I actually checked that one out as well. And libraries have all my love. Without them, I would be doing very little reading. Or maybe robbing banks. Haha.

    • nlmars said,

Ha! That’s awesome. I can’t wait to see what you think of Vesper, then. I’ll be eagerly awaiting your review. πŸ™‚
Hahaha, agreed. Or maybe sneaking into bookstores and reading until they decide to kick me out and ban me. :-/ πŸ˜›

I love the cover for Vesper!

I do often avoid books written by guys though… don’t know why. I recently read one of John Marsden’s books and that was super! I must read more books written by guys, I must.

Yeah, I’m a bit wary about books written by guys, especially if the main character is a girl. Sometimes they don’t really get it right. I recommend Simon Holt’s Soulstice series. He’s written a really great, scary story, with an awesome strong female character. Check it out. πŸ™‚

Late comment is late, but thanks for commenting on my last IMM post. And you have a pretty nice haul here! I really loved “Vesper”, “Desires of the Dead” is still in my TBR pile, and I’ve been sorely tempted by “Iron Duke”. Let us know how they are, okay?
